Trend Report: June
When the lights came up on the SS13 shows last September, I was thrilled to see black. Lots and lots of black– sometimes monochromatic, other times the foundation for graphic ensembles, and frequently against the whitest of whites. I found myself enamored with the harsh contrast of not only the colors and the juxtaposition of silhouettes, but by the women for whom these clothes were made to be worn. This trend translates to the chic sophisticate, the elegantly classic, the downtown debutant and everyone in between. Whether you’re staying put for the summer, or traveling the globe, this is the perfect solution to looking just as good when you arrive at your destination as when you packed your passport… and staying comfortable the whole way!
There’s nothing worse than looking as tired as you might feel. Keeping a tube of Tom Ford’s Aphrodisiac handy will not only brighten your face, but your mood too. The hue is perfectly summer and is incredibly moisturizing, all while exuding an air of confidence, power and femininity–my travel secret!
By now we are all used to the TSA guidelines, but have not become any less annoyed by having to take off our shoes every time we want to hop a flight. We yearn for a comfortable, stylish, hassle-free option, and here they are! These d’Orsay flats by Elizabeth and James are uber-modern and can easily take you wherever your heart desires, while looking sharp the whole way through.
Of course the most casual, (and acceptable), type of pants to wear everyday and especially for travel – plane, train, automobile, or even Vespa for that matter! These by G-Star are soft and loose-fitting with an updated cut that allows for movement. They’re deconstructed just enough to hide any wrinkles, won’t get stretched out from having been slept in on a plane for 10 hours, and are the great bright pop to the rest of your dress.
One inevitable part of travel is the ever-changing temperature. Besides any weather difference between take off and landing, we need to be prepared for every other atmosphere we step into. From the car to the airport, in the restaurant, from the shuttle to the hotel any beyond, you cannot be dressed for all, which is why I suggest this gorgeous gem. Perfect when it’s warm or chilly, and can double as a pillow whilst in transit.
Balenciaga can do no wrong in my eyes, and this is the perfect bag, traveling or not. The deep Bleu Mineral will take you through seasons and the shape is a staple. Big enough to hold everything without throwing your back out, but not too big to carry all day. Best part is, if the bag is ever damaged, Balenciaga will repair it for you!
Alternative Apparel seriously makes the best tees ever. Great shapes, luxurious cotton, and universally flattering. I love the cap sleeves–just enough femininity to off-set the toughness, and can quite literally be worm with anything.
