Trend Report: February

Trend Report: February

Every January, I make the same resolution to save and not shop. That typically lasts a full four weeks. Once February arrives, and naturally after NYFW, I’m ready to empty my bank account on the forecasted trends for 2013. With a month filled with Superbowl, GRAMMY and Oscar parties, and of course Valentine’s Day celebrations, it’s hard not to want the perfect coordinating fashions for each event.

February’s trend report focuses on affordable, feminine and flirty finds that are sure to get you through a very busy February and designed to WOW your very best friends, co-workers and lovers!

February Trend Report

1. Subtle Studding:

Last year, I studded everything. Metallic oxfords, sweatshirts, sheer blouses, and jean cut-offs, were all adorned with tall spiky or square studs in every metal imaginable. Though this trend will, fingers crossed, carry through to 2014, smaller and rounder studs will be the “IT”‘ stud of 2013. Wear this Topshop studded lace bralet in public, under a sheer blouse. You can also show off your knowledge of this month’s fashion trends in a more private fashion by pairing the studded bralet with its matching vintage-inspired, high waisted knickers for a very happy Valentine’s Day!

2. Light-wash Jean:

Gone are the days of dark and colored denim. Well not really, but the light wash denim is looking to make a come back this spring, and I for one am ready to embrace it. There is something refreshing and carefree about light wash jeans. Pair these Paige jeans with a faux leather peplum top and bright-colored pumps and lips for a romantic date night at the local wine bar.

3. Colored Lace:

We saw the lace trend emerge a few years back and it shows no signs of fading this year. This year’s award shows have already seen colored lace in varying styles, lengths and colors. Lea Michele and Leslie Mann both donned girly pink cocktail dresses on the red carpet this season. This Free People shift dress is classic enough to become a staple in any closet, and though you may not be walking the red carpet this season, the rich red hue is sure to win best dressed at your Oscars viewing party.

4. Black & White:

A big forecasted trend for Spring 2013, this one can be easily achieved with chic LBDs (or LWDs), color-blocking, and statement-making accessories. For a tad more edge, try this Schutz flat in a playful Aztec print, also big this year.

5. Pantone Color of the Year – Emerald:

If you are an avid reader of Move and the monthly fashion trend reports, you may recall November’s trend report also included the deep green. I know what you must be thinking: “fashion visionary.”  Though it’s not your traditional Valentine’s pink, white or red, emerald proves to be just as sexy this month. Try out the trend (again), this time with this velvet box clutch by Glint. Throw the gold chain over your shoulder for a night of dancing with the friends you love most.

February is the month of love. We see it as an opportunity to create deeper connections with your loved ones and with anything that ignites a passion in your soul. We see it as a moment to appreciate the little everyday things that put a smile on your face. We see it as the chance to show yourself that hey, you’re pretty lovable and you deserve a little TLC, too. (And that’s always a good thing, no matter what month it is!)
