Trend Report: Holiday Cocktail Attire
The holiday season has a way of evoking so many human emotions: excitement, anxiety and the notoriously unwelcome stress, but most of all, love is ultimately in the air. Year after year I’m excited about all the wonderful people I get to celebrate and spend time with, anxious about whether or not the dinner I’m hosting will go off without a hitch and, like a slap in the face, my stress level shoots through the roof when I think about what in the world I’m going to wear! I make such an effort in these times to stray from the expected while still embracing the spirit of the season. Maybe it’s understatedly obvious, but it’s definitely an updated version of our mothers’ cocktail attire. As long as we’re having fun with it, we’re having fun!
My heart might have stopped when I saw this walk down the Parisian runway in March. Saint Laurent balances the contradictions between long and short, metallic and matte, feminine and masculine and asks us to ponder the thought of heels vs. combat boots with a cocktail dress. (The answer is yes, both work.) Inevitably, at any given festivity, we tend to find ourselves adrift a sea of sequins, navigating our way through the usual red, green, gold and silver evening attire. This piece is a standout for obvious reasons, and while the perfect choice for any holiday gathering, it also deserves heavy rotation all year round.
I mean, how amazing is this jacket? Not only does it go with everything, it practically contains all the best trends of the season and can be worn for many more to come. Meet your new soon-to-be new staple. I adore topping off something formal with a motorcycle jacket and this one spoke to me–especially the tartan as a little nod to the holidays.
I think simple is best when choosing a bag for this particular night out and Valentino happened to solve all my problems with their gorgeous black Glam Stud clutch. Just enough room to fit all the essentials with gold accents to bring the whole look together.
These beauties are business in the front and party in the back! Listen closely enough and you can hear the silk/satin rounded toes whisper total sweetness whilst the cone-shaped gold heels scream power, just begging for attention. A true feeling of old Hollywood glamour that I’m also planning on showing off with my destroyed boyfriend jeans and a white tee once it warms up a little.
Of course we need to talk jewelry for a big night out! I have been obsessed with rings since I can remember, but honestly, I am so over the oversized, cheap-looking solitaire cocktail rings that have been so prevalent in recent years. Margiela kept it fresh with this gorgeous shield-esque, Chinese fingertrap looking thingamajig. I know it might not seem so, however, this work of art is actually quite dainty when worn and will not go unnoticed.
