Secret Summer Hacks

As a girl-on-the-go, my summer calendar is usually pretty booked up with picnics in the park, beach barbecues, pool parties, and camping trips. The last thing I want to do on a sunny summer day to waste time while the beauty of the day passes me by. Summer always seems to pass much too fast, so I’m always devising clever tricks to hack my regular routine in order to maximize my summer fun.

To say I am a coffee person is a bit of an understatement. In the afternoons, I am always looking for an extra jolt of caffeine to propel me through the rest of my day, and maybe a little something sweet. In the summer, I knock both these cravings out in one shot with homemade coffee popsicles. Yep. You heard me. I pour brewed coffee mixed with a bit of cream in to popsicle molds, and voilà! No more wasting time or money running to the local coffee shop to stand in line for an ice-blended.

Staying hydrated in the hot summer sun is absolutely essential. I always keep a stash of coconut water on hand at home, both in the fridge and in the freezer. The frozen ones are great to take on-the-go, thawing to a most refreshing and delicious drink wherever the day has taken me.

Sandals are the staple footwear of summer, so I make it a priority to keep my feet looking fresh from the spa. Since I don’t want to spend an hour inside the nail salon each week, (that’s an hour of pool time, people!), I massage my with my feet nightly with favorite coconut-scented balm, then put on cotton socks. Remove the socks in the morning, and ta-da, super soft feet and heels, totally sandal-ready.

Growing up in the California sun, I know the importance of sunscreen. As much as I hate to admit, there are days that I do a less-than-stellar job in reapplying after taking a dip in the salty sea. For those rare occasions when I return home with a pink tinge on my skin, I pull out my tray of aloe ice cubes from the freezer. The aloe helps to heal the sunburn more quickly, and the frozen cube feels oh-so-good on the sting of the burn.

If there’s one thing about summer, it’s that the need to throw on a bathing suit is always imminent, which means legs should be smooth. Stubble is only hot on men, ladies. I am not a fan of daily shaving, so my quick trick to silky legs is Veet Gel Cream. It’s so easy to use, smells divine, and I love that I can multitask while using it! I can touch up my toenail polish, tie my hair in a topknot, throw on a little mascara and lipgloss, and then, oh! It’s done! The best part is it lasts a little longer than shaving does, which means less time spent worrying if my legs are primed for poolside.

They are my weakness during summer. I could eat them all afternoon. (And then not sleep all night.) 😉
