Move LifeStyle

Notes on August

The day after I found out I was pregnant, I launched into about four months of nonstop travel for work. As of two weeks ago, it’s finally slowed down. I’m landed in LA through the end of the year (maybe/possibly/probably) as my bump gets bigger,

I suddenly find myself possessed with a fervor for organization the likes of which I have never known.

and therefore the jobs that I can take on as an actress become fewer. Come January, two months post-baby I’ll be jumping right back into the swim, but in the meantime I’ve gone into full-blown baby prep/summer cleaning/freak-out mode. In fact, I suddenly find myself possessed with a fervor for organization the likes of which I have never know. Last night, I was actually dreaming that I was at the Container Store hunting for the perfect shelving unit! That’s how serious my disease has become.

Call it nesting if you must, but regardless of whether or not you’re growing a tiny person inside, I feel like there should be some sort of August ‘reset’ button that we can all press, kind of like a six-month sister to Spring Cleaning. With school beginning and the shorter days quickly approaching, I’m sure I’m not the only one finding myself equally fired up with the desire to ‘set things straight’ and get life in order.

We’re going through a similar ‘clean out and up’ phase behind the scenes at Move. I’ve had some amazing brand consultations with online media career coach Duane Fernandez who helped me get clear on a lot of things for the future of Move. And recently Ashley, Jenn and I had a wonderful company retreat where we set goals for the rest of the year, did team building exercises and spent a feverish 24 hours dreaming about the future of this company. We talked long into the night about how to make it better for you and how to make it more enjoyable for ourselves. Well, we also drank lattes at LaMill, ate amazing Mexican food and slept for 8 full hours without being awoken by small children, so it wasn’t all work and no play. After all, creating work-life balance was on our minds!

At home, my family is existing in the chaos brought on by being ‘in between,’ and my husband’s response is mostly one of “What’s going on?” or “What’s this doing here?” or “Where IS that one thing?” Maybe you’ve had a similar response to the changes you’ve seen around the website, as we’re transitioning to something a little bit new. We’ll be posting three times a week instead of five, so we can up our game and focus on bringing you more beautiful, intelligent and intentional content free of filler. We’re rolling out a few things that allow YOU to get more involved in the site, sharing your own style and inspiration and tips for work-life balance with us on a regular basis, so keep an eye out for fun new goodies. As I progress with my frenzied nesting mode, I’ll be sharing inspiration from my life as I overhaul my office and create a new bedroom space for not ONE but TWO boys! The most exciting news is we are partnering with big companies we absolutely LOVE and are so excited to bring you some great giveaways, (so be on the lookout, new mamas!) and beautiful content.

Is there anything in particular you’d love to see us cover this fall?

Congrats on your growing family! Don’t worry…I feel the August rush too. I head back to college in less than 2 weeks! :) Good luck and don’t worry…everything will work out!

Hi Autumn … id love to see a few recipes always been inspired by new food ideas great way to share stories with friends & possibly a good way to get others involved in the site. Also maybe silly idea or too hard but what about a MOVE challenge … like some sort of worldwide challenge where we can all join together to do something special… for ourselves or others.

Great idea, Jamie-lee! We’ll be launching some interactive challenges on Instagram this fall so I’ll definitely think of some other ways to get people involved, too! Thank you so much for the suggestions:)

Where did the summer go?! Between work and crazy (more-like-fall) weather it feels like I’ve completely missed this summer. And today when the weather is finally good I woke up with a bad cold :( Well, at least I have time to catch up on my favorite sites…
For me college will start in exactly two weeks and I’m trying to prepare myself for a very busy schedule. But I’m looking forward to new MOVE LifeStyle posts and I think Jamie-lee’s suggestions are great.
Good luck with creating a space for a new baby, Autumn. Have you decided on a name yet? P.S. MOVE envelope looks very pretty)
