October is my favorite month of the year, and always brings up nostalgic feelings for me. Being from the Midwest, I think there is nothing better than throwing on an oversized sweater, heating up leftover homemade chili and watching college football. The cooler fall months also bring out my bolder side; deep blood reds, rich plums and accessories like floppy felt hats and statement-making booties are all a part of my autumn wardrobe. These five trends are on my list of wardrobe must-haves for October.

This fall the color on everyone’s lips, legs and fingers is burgundy. Be bold and sport a pair of shiny coated burgundy jeans or opt for a pop of drama with an Essie Masquerade Belle mani. I am too excited for this LA heat wave to cool down so I can wear this recently purchased felt panama hat from Banana Republic.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t channeling my inner Olivia Palermo or Leandra Medine with this item. Jean vests were big this spring and fur vests have been a fall staple for a few years now. This sleeveless blazer from Urban Outfitters serves as a great layering piece to add on top of a chambray button down or underneath that military jacket you havent taken off since 2010… or maybe that’s just me.
Brocade and needlepoint flooded the Spring NYFW runways for Fall 2012 and now I am obsessed! Although my pocketbook might not allow me to purchase my favorite D&G stunner, I still plan to incorporate this baroque-era trend into my 21st century wardrobe. If you are like me, you might be looking for a way to subtly try out this trend. Free People‘s tapestry turbans are a totally non-commital yet fun way to incorporate tapestry into your everyday wardrobe. Simply pair with your favorite jeans and neutral long-sleeved tee and you are good to go!
As seen on handbags, jewelry, shoes and scarves, this is my universal “IT” accessory of the season. Tassels, made from materials such as chain or leather, add a touch of class and whimsy to any outfit. If you are unsure how or where you want to use a tassel, opt for a leather tassel keychain that can easily clip onto a handbag, clutch or even a gold chain to create a necklace. I love the simplicity of this Kendra Scott tassel pendant necklace because it’s classic enough to become a staple item.
Anything goes right now when it comes to printed denim! Although they come in all different textures, colors, sizes and prices, floral and Ikat prints will remain popular options this fall. I am lusting for richer patterns like herringbone, muted snakeskin and this fabulous pair of houndstooth printed jeans from Gap.
