This week, instead of being on the island, I was on the road, celebrating my 32nd birthday in Los Angeles. I was only in town for a short while and wanted to see a handful of my closest girlfriends, so the lovely Jenn Wong worked her magic to hook me up with a table at the Patisserie at Jose Andres’ restaurant, Bazaar.
Despite the fact that most of the year I dress like a tomboy, for some reason on my birthday I cannot seem to tear myself away from magenta and gold glitter, and this year was no exception. My dress was by Ruby, my shoes were gold glittered by Aldo, my rings were from JewelMint and my necklace & earrings were thrift store finds.
Surprisingly, not much dessert was consumed, but many cocktails sneakily made their way onto our table… Some of my favorites:
The Caipirinha — a frozen concoction prepared tableside with liquid nitrogen
The Jale-Berry — a kicky drink with a vibrant fuchsia color that belies it’s spicy snap
The Dirty Martini — the highlight of this one is the liquified olive spheres. Just trust me on this.
If you’re ever in Los Angeles, a trip to Bazaar (even if it’s simply for a few of their innovative cocktails) won’t disappoint. I was so grateful for a night out with some of my favorite ladies and thrilled to still be here on this earth to celebrate another year gone by.
