Move LifeStyle

Inspired By: Working Girl

That classic girl-on-the-go film, Working Girl, will celebrate it’s 25th anniversary this year. Starring Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver and Harrison Ford, the film is chock-full of classic 80’s iconography and workplace lessons.

I don’t know about you, but the film had a major impact on me. I couldn’t wait to walk to work one day in tennis shoes, carrying my high heels. I’m secretly tickled every time I actually get to do this– when I audition on the big studio lots, I carry my pumps and rock a pair of ballet flats to the waiting room. (And you better believe other long-time actresses are doing the same — we’ve learned from our blisters over the years!)

I love the idea of translating this classic power look for today’s workplace. To modernize it for today’s trends, you might not want to go all the way to permville, but you can certainly rock Melanie’s oversize specs and boyfriend blazer. Here’s my interpretation:

[1] White Rag & Bone moto blazer [2] Marc Jacobs polkadot silk shirt [3] Isabel Marant sneakers [4] Kate Spade polkadot pumps [5] white ankle skinnies from Madewell [6] vintage red frames

Living 7 blocks from my office downtown San Diego I get to do just this, walk in tennis shoes with my heels in a bag. Feels good to get a little extra exercise on a work day. I love all your posts Autumn, and the MOVE team!
