Trend Report: July

Summertimmmmeeeee and the livin’s easy…or it should be, and certainly can be, when you’re comfortable and confident! My advice: stock up on cute, unexpected, easy pieces you can wear all day and into the night. Also, if you’re not on board with wearing leather in the warmer months, you will be soon! If we look to the runways for inspiration, we’ve leaned by now that this luxurious textile is here to stay and in a form that is easily wearable. This is not the noisy, sticky, stiff, stuff from the past, I promise!

1. Top

We all have an affinity for the basic white top and probably have drawers full of them. ALC literally put a surprise twist on this one–the best part is that the cutouts double as a built-in AC!

2. Bag

Summer evokes a sense of being light and carefree, so who wants to be bogged down by a big heavy bag? Alexander Wang agrees and makes his classic coveted bags in mini versions for this very reason. I love mixing silver and gold, and besides being gorgeous, it’s your new go anywhere, anytime, neutral bag.

3. Shorts

Rachel Zoe made one of the yummiest, prettiest, most comfortable pair of buttery leather shorts for the season. I know it might sound scary to wear these in high heat, but the cut and drape are perfection, making them the pair you will want to wear every single day.

4. Sunglasses

Sunnies are the accessory I never leave the house without and wear all year round: rain, sleet, snow, whatever. I also refuse to take them off on the subway… Yes, I am that person! They are clearly a necessity and since we all deserve a little luxe in our lives, why not splurge on one of the most lustful designs by Linda Farrow? They’re beautifully designed, refreshingly unique and if you really need another reason, they have 100% UV protection and can be fitted with prescription lenses. You’re welcome!

5. Shoes

In a pedestrian city I have become a member of the ‘flats-wearing heels-carrying while you travel’ society, which is why finding a great pair you can pound the pavement in mile after mile brings more excitement than you know! The stacked heel on these adorable Vince Camuto sandals is just what the podiatrist ordered and the gold accents are oh-so-chic!

6. Moisturizer

I’ve been a loyal Dermalogica girl for almost a decade and cannot live without this magical face lotion. My first summer in the city was quite a shocker and forced me to completely rethink my entire beauty routine. Anyone that lives in an incredibly humid atmosphere knows that what you need for your face in the dry winter does not work in the summer. This oil-free serum is ultra hydrating and leaves your face completely matte and shine free for the whole day. A true must-have.

We hope the longer days will encourage us all to kick back at least a little bit each day this summer. Take your morning coffee and your laptop onto your porch and enjoy the beautiful weather in the hushed moment before the city wakes up and before the busy day begins. Cheers to summer!

Janessa, I’m kind of obsessed with Vince Camuto heels lately — they’re surprisingly wearable!

I am in love with that tank! So breezy and cute, simple but with enough style to make a statement. Adore.
