Dressing a Destination Part 1: Rome
Italy was a place I had always dreamt about: the history, wine, romance, handsome men, quality of life and of course, the pasta. Oh, the pasta! This past spring, I had the amazing opportunity to venture to Italy with my family for vacation. My dad, mom, sister and I have been globe-trotting since I can remember and I’m so grateful to be experiencing these new and exciting places with the people I love. When I found out that we were going abroad to the country of love, I started imaging myself in romantic pockets of the city wearing fabulous outfits— oh, and of course, learning about the incredible history that the city has to offer and you know, bonding with my family– but there was only one problem with my magical daydream: the words carry-on. I was presented with the lovely challenge of fitting in all of my fantasy outfits for two weeks into a tiny carry-on.
Oh, the horror!
So, I got creative. I got an itinerary for every place we were going to, what the weather was going to be like there, if we were traveling by train, etc. and then strategically laid out outfits for each day. Upon arriving in Rome, I knew it was going to be raining and that Monday was the day I wanted to channel a mysterious Italian biker named Zita! (Hey, no judging my daydreams!) So, I threw on my staple pair of jeans for the trip, my durable Frye boots, my travel-friendly leather jacket, a rocker tee and my cat eyes for our first day in the enchanting city of Roma!
Two thunderstorms and five museums later, I gently closed my perma-dropped jaw, and felt completely charmed and overwhelmed by the amazing city. I got to walk where Julius Caesar once walked, visit Vatican City, parade around the Colosseum, and at the same time, fulfilled a little fashion fantasy.
