At Home: Coastal Retreat
As summer is upon us, I find myself daydreaming of escaping town to some remote coastal locale that boasts stretches of white sandy beaches alongside an endless turquoise ocean that blurs the horizon line between water and sky, making one indistinguishable from the other. While the shores of Mykanos, the Seychelles or even East Hampton are well out of my reach, I will be taking as many weekend trips as I can manage to Malibu. (Which isn’t that bad of a deal, I admit!) There, I will longing gaze at the homes perched precariously upon the sloping hillsides, privy to sweeping views of expansive shoreline and cozy cottages nestled between the beach mansions whose back doors open up to the sand and let my design imagination create a seaside retreat that would make me feel as if far away from the daily grind. A relaxed comfortable sofa atop a natural jute rug, paired with touches of carmel leather, and coupled with bohemian prints casually placed below a milky glass bubble chandelier that evokes a restrained touch of glamour makes me feel like it’s summer any time of year. I could waltz into this sea side shack with sandy feet, salty skin and feel miles and miles away.
