An Afternoon Tea
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we thought we’d share some bright spring inspiration for an afternoon tea with the girls, which would also make an amazing bridal brunch or baby shower! Jenn, Ashley and I got together with Briana Lane and Leslie Durso to bring you some beautiful inspiration, shot by ace photography team, null. Enjoy some eye candy and follow these five easy tips for throwing a party to celebrate the women nearest and dearest to you!
Tip #1 Keep the table settings simple. Leave the table bare, lay a length of burlap down the center, and top with clean white plates. When the table is piled this high with flowers and sweets, feel free to use your everyday dishware, and pick up white cotton napkins to finish the look. Linen is also lovely, but you have to iron it, and seriously, who wants to spend their time ironing napkins?
Tip #2 Whenever possible, take your gathering al fresco. It takes a tad more effort to move tables and chairs outdoors, but it’s worth the payoff!
Tip #3 If you find flower arranging a little intimidating, one of my favorite secrets is to use lots of small vessels instead of one big one vase and scatter them around the table. It somehow feels like less pressure, the table looks full and lush, and you don’t have to worry about being able to see your companions across the table over the tall arrangements. For this brunch, we used repurposed applesauce jars, sherry glasses, and champagne flutes to house our blooms. Buy five different types of flowers in varying sizes at the market, pull out ten different pieces of glassware, and mix and match to your heart’s content.
Tip #4 Dress to impress. I’ve always loved dressing ‘in theme.’ In the case of a brunch, tea, or shower, it means choosing something to bring out your femininity, however that feels best to you. Events like this are a celebration of the women in your life, so feel free to overindulge your girlie side. I’ve worn this yellow DKNY dress to multiple events and I never tire of its cheery feel.
Tip #5 Pick one showstopping recipe to concentrate your efforts on (bake that something you’ve been meaning to try from Pinterest!), and buy everything else at the store, girl! Everyone will be focused on your attention-grabbing effort while they happily nibble away at everything else. Case in point, we sourced our dramatic cake and quiche recipes from Leslie and our favorite cookbooks, and we purchased the amazing little fruit tartes at a French bakery down the road. Done.
Cheers and Bon Appetit!
